Child & Adolescent Services
The Child and Adolescent Services programme offers interdisciplinary assessment and treatment of child, adolescent and family problems. The interdisciplinary team includes a Clinical Social Worker, Child Psychiatrist, Child Psychologist, Occupational Therapist and a Clinical Nurse who is specially trained to work with children and teenagers. Each may play an important role in helping young people deal with crises and learn healthier ways to cope with their difficulties.
The Clinical Social Worker (CSW) intervenes in crisis situations and networks with schools and community agencies on behalf of young clients and their families. The CSW also evaluates and assesses the individual’s psychosocial functioning in order to recommend appropriate treatment therapies.
The Child Psychiatrist is a medical doctor who is specially trained to work with children’s mental health issues. The doctor also consults with school personnel, community agencies and provides court evaluations and inpatient care where such services are required.
The Child Psychologist provides therapy for children with psychological and behavioral problems and advises caregivers and agencies on management issues.
The Clinical Nurse is specially trained in Child, Adolescent and Family Mental Health Nursing. The Nurse provides counseling and educational services to the children and their families.
The Occupational Therapist helps children gain greater self-awareness and insight to their problems in order to achieve age-appropriate self-help and socialisation skills.
