Registration Deadline for Child Mental Health Workshop on Monday 10 May 2010
(Hamilton, Bermuda, May 7, 2010)
Bermuda Hospitals Board (BHB) today announces that registration for its Mental Health Workshop for parents and children, titled “In a Different Voice: A View of Child Mental health from a Community Perspective” will close on Monday 10 May 2010.
The workshop has been developed as part of Child Depression Awareness Month in May. It will take place on Saturday 15 May at Bermuda College, from 9.00am to 3.00pm. Anyone wishing to register should contact CAS at 239-6344 or go see below to download a registration form. The Workshop is free for teens and $30 for adults, inclusive of a light breakfast and lunch.

Clinical Director of Child & Adolescent Services, Sharon Apopa comments: “Our goal is to help support families and encourage healthy discussion and understanding about issues that affect our children and adolescents. Our focus is on teens as this can be such a difficult time for our young people and their parents. As a parent, this workshop will help you understand your teen and the issues they face, from talking about sex to advocating for them, being alert to changes in their mental health can make a huge difference in your children’s lives and their mental wellbeing.”
The Workshops will be hosted by the Child & Adolescent Services team and other community partners, with special guest, local physician and Medical Radio star Dr Henry Dowling, hosting the Let’s Talk About Sex, Baby parent workshop.
The Workshop is open to parents, youth workers, educators, grandparents and teens.
“We are very excited to be hosting this Workshop for parents and teens and getting them involved in improving mental health,” adds Ms Latisha Lister, Family Therapist at CAS “Supporting our children’s wellbeing and addressing the challenges they face, helps raise a community of healthy and strong individuals.”
