BHB Volunteers

This programme provides an alternative to the traditional volunteer organisations onsite. It is best suited for those who require flexibility, those exploring healthcare career options, the retired person, working adults, and students. It also provides a vehicle of participation for community service groups, such as churches, youth groups, helping agencies, etc. Volunteer opportunities include helping in numerous areas of KEMH and MWI, as well as in the community. These include special events support, the Blood Centre, therapy programmes, group homes and weekend trolley service in the wards.

Student Programme

Student volunteers must be at least 14 years of age. They have the opportunity to volunteer year-round, after school, during school holidays, day-release and work shadow.

MWI Volunteers assist the many services throughout the hospital and group homes in various ways:

  • Therapy (beauty, crafts and outings)
  • Vocational mentoring (skill enhancements)
  • Direct client services (The Hangar Boutique Thrift Store)
  • Support special events for the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute Committee (SBAC)
  • Corporate Community projects
  • Home adoption schemes

Students who are at least 14 years old may volunteer to engage in work experiences, day release or community service awareness projects throughout the school year or during holidays.

The Hangar Boutique Thrift Store provides clients, staff and visitors with affordable re-sale clothing, shoes and small household goods.
